While fiction can never fully capture the pain and complexity of these crimes, I believe it can shine a light on the hidden corners of our society—and offer a sense of justice, even when the real world falls short.

Confronting the Harshest Truths in Crime Fiction

In The Price of Life, Santana is pulled into the shadowy world of sex trafficking and drug running along the US-Mexico border. The case is personal, raw, and fraught with moral peril. Writing this novel was a sobering experience. I wanted to create a story that was both suspenseful and respectful of the victims, drawing on extensive research and survivor accounts. Santana’s journey is one of empathy and relentless pursuit of the truth, even when the cost is high. Through his eyes, we see not only the brutality of these crimes but the resilience and courage of those who fight back.
